what’s copywriting and how does it help your small business?

Don’t just pray your website is working for your customers! (Photo credit: GO INTERACTIVE WELLNESS)

I think it’s a bit like looking for your perfect partner.  You look around, test the water, see what you like (as well as what your don’t) and decide if it’s for you or not.  That’s how someone weighs up your business.  Copywriting is how we help them to make the right choices.

Let me elaborate.

The chat up line.

Imagine you were an expat in Zurich looking for a service. Let’s say you wanted to find a yoga course (stay with me non-yoga fans!).

You type into google ‘yoga courses in Zurich’. Up pops a long list of possible matches and pages you can click on.

You see a headline near the top of the page that says ‘Zurich loves Yoga¦ And our small, friendly studio in the heart of the city.

Really?  Does it?  You should too.  You click on it.

Staying for a drink.

You land on the website homepage.

It looks lovely – calm and serene, with beautiful graphics. You feel that you’re in the right place. You see some text – not too much. Words jump out at you off the page, dancing in front of your eyes:

‘central’, ‘friendly‘, ‘reach your yoga goals‘, ‘fitness’, ‘well being’, ‘class times and sizes to suit you’

You’ve scanned the page. You’re in. All if this in less than five seconds.  You love yoga too!

Arranging the first date.

The detail. Cost? Location? Who runs it? Language? All there. All of your questions answered, with minimum effort.

Want to know a bit more about yoga? Why not stay a while? See more here on our blog, get a feel for what we’re all about.  Relax, take some time out and enjoy yourself!

Sealing the deal.

The average time someone spends on a website is five minutes, once they’ve made the decision to stay. The average time on the landing pagefive seconds.

Your business has a lot to deliver within that time and you probably have a lot to say.   Say it in the right way, with maximum impact and your audience’s needs at heart.  The right words, in the right places, to take you to where you need to be.

Easy. Fast. Satisfying.

That’s copywriting.
